A NOTE FROM THE ATLAS

Behind every education system are many different childhoods.

Read each account as one person’s experience—not a portrait of everyone.

ABOUT THIS PROJECT

A place to listen,
before drawing conclusions.

Beyond the Classroom explores how education intersects with family, environment, opportunity, and belonging across East Asia. This collection brings together published interviews, student profiles, audio recollections, and education references.

Story cards are editorial summaries of published material, not interviews conducted by this project or direct quotations. Video and audio descriptions identify when they are based on publisher notes. Publication dates describe when accounts appeared; they do not establish what every student experiences today. Personal accounts cannot establish that a culture causes a mental-health condition.

Coverage is growing. Countries and education systems are listed for navigation; map boundaries follow Natural Earth and do not express a position on disputed territories. Hong Kong and Macao have separate future guide entries.
